With the exception of the Dax, all of the major markets ended last week’s trading higher.
In Europe over the course of the week, the FTSE was up by 0.54%, it closed at 6154.4; the Dax ended at 7702.2, falling by 0.17% over the course of the week; the CAC was up by 0.96% to end the session at 3741.6.
The Dow ended the week stronger to the tune of 1.2% at 13649.7. The Nasdaq composite index ended at 3134.7, making 0.29% over the course of the week.
The Nikkei 225 ended the week’s trading higher, gaining 1% to end the session at 10913.3.
On the currency markets last week, the Dollar saw the best of trading. The Dollar was stronger against Sterling last week, closing at 1.5876 to the Pound; a rise of 1.6%. The Greenback strengthened against the Euro last week, gaining 0.41% to close at 1.32987. The Dollar made ground against the Japanese currency, closing at 89.89 to the Yen, a gain of 0.7% on the week.
The Euro strengthened against the Yen ending at 119.54, a gain of 0.29% over the course of the week. The Euro rose against Sterling last week by 1.2%; the close saw one £ buying €1.19379.
On the commodities market, the price for Brent crude ended higher, closing at $111.9 per barrel (for Marech delivery); a rise of 1.1% over the course of the week’s trading. The value of gold was higher last week, closing at $1688.5 per ounce, representing a gain of 1.9% over last week’s value.
