At the end of last week’s trading, all of the world’s major markets ended higher. In Europe over the course of the week, the FTSE was up by 1.6%, it closed at 6625.5; the Dax ended at 8278.6, rising by 1.9% over the course of the week; the CAC was up by 1% to end the session at 3953.8. The Dow ended the week higher, climbing by 0.97% to 15118.5. The Nasdaq composite index ended at 3436.6, making 1.7% over the course of the week. The Nikkei 225 ended the week’s trading up by 6.7% to end the session at 14607.5.
Currency Markets Review
On the currency markets last week, the Dollar saw the best of trading. The Dollar was stronger against Sterling last week, closing at 1.5334 to the Pound; a gain of 1.5% over the week. The Greenback strengthened against the Euro last week climbing by 1.2% to close at 1.2953. The Dollar was stronger against the Japanese currency, closing at 101.75 to the Yen, making a gain of 2.7% during the week.
The Euro strengthened against the Yen ending at 131.8, a gain of 1.4% over the course of the week. The Euro made ground against Sterling last week rising by 0.27%; the close saw one £ buying €1.1838.
Commodities Market Review
On the commodities market, the price for Brent crude ended marginally lower, at $103.9 per barrel (for June delivery); a fall of 0.24% over the course of the week’s trading. The value of gold was lower last week, closing at $1426.5 per ounce, representing a fall of 2.9% over last week’s value.
