The Queen of England allowed the suspension of the British Parliament, a move that is being heavily criticized by the British opposition, and even some moderate conservative leaders.
"Suspending Parliament is not acceptable, it is not on. What the prime minister is doing is a smash and grab on our democracy to force through a no-deal," said the Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Other British opposition leaders agreed with Corbyn's opinion.
“Make no mistake, this is a very British coup,” said the Labour PM John McDonnell.
The Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson quit as the leader of the Scottish Tories citing family reasons and mentioning the Brexit.
"While I have not hidden the conflict I have felt over Brexit, I have attempted to chart a course for our party which recognizes and respects the referendum result, while seeking to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks for key Scottish businesses and sectors," she wrote in a letter, "However, as I look to the future, I see the Scottish election due in 2021 and a credible threat from our opponents to force a general election before then," she added.
The United States President Donald Trump welcomed the measure, claiming that Johnson is exactly what the United Kingdom has been looking for.
“Boris is exactly what the U.K. has been looking for, & will prove to be ‘a great one!’ Love the U.K,” said Trump on his Twitter account.
Right after the British opposition announced that they would try to stop the Brexit in the parliament, Johnson's government decided to prorogue the parliament, impeding the MPs to resume their duties before October 14 and leaving them with very few time to advance with their plans to stop the Brexit. Johnson denied this was the government's intention.
Negotiations with Brussels Stalled
The Dutch Foreign Minister Stephan Blok claimed that serious talks regarding the Brexit Between the United Kingdom and the European Union took place on Wednesday, however, they weren't able to reach a solution that would satisfy both parts.
Johnson keeps insisting that Brussels should Abandon the Irish backstop deal, but Brussels claims is the only way they can avoid setting a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
“We are not there yet,” said Blok, adding that a Brexit without a deal is not in the interests of the British and EU leadership.
